New sign dedicated outside Kiel High School

Representatives of the Kiel Area School District including Board of Education

Representatives of the Kiel Area School District including Board of Education members, the City of Kiel, Land O’Lakes Inc. and the Kiel Area Chamber of Commerce were among those who gathered recently for the dedication of the new electronic sign outside Kiel High School made possible through the support of Land O’Lakes.

Representatives of Land O’Lakes, the Kiel Area School District (KASD) and the Kiel Area Association of Commerce were among those who gathered Friday, May 19 to dedicate the new electronic sign outside the high school.

As previously reported in a Tri-County News article, the sign was made possible through the support of Land O’Lakes, Inc.

"We’re very grateful," KASD Administrator Dr. Brad Ebert said of Land O’Lakes’ efforts to make the sign possible. "It's bigger and more beautiful that we thought it was going to be."

Dr. Ebert said the project is more than installation of a new sign as it marks the continuing and growing partnership between Land O’Lakes and the community.

Pete Kappelman, senior vice president of Member and Government Relations for Land O’Lakes, said, "We too are proud of our partnership here in Kiel. We are proud to be a partner in this program."

Kappelman said he and the company both have special ties to the KASD. He said his mother is a 1948 graduate of Kiel High School and milk from his family's farm has been brought to Kiel for processing for 75 years. The former full-time farmer said Land O’Lakes employs more than 160 people in Kiel and serves 100 farms throughout the area.

City of Kiel Mayor Mike Steinhardt said the city also has been a partner with the company, including updating infrastructure in the past so that the company could expand its footprint in Kiel. "It's been a partnership over the years," Steinhardt said.

Board of Education President Dan Meyer echoed those sentiments. "It's not just about a sign," he said, pointing out that the schools are the heart of the community and that companies like Land O’Lakes need the schools to turn out future employees. "That's what this partnership is about," Meyer added.
